My skills and how they have grown
I have
learned many things about myself in writing this school year especially in the
second semester. I learned especially about what my strengths and weaknesses
are as a writer and how to make those stand out when I’m writing as opposed to
the things I’m not as good at. My strengths as a writer I would consider to be
vivid detail and my diction. I think I am good at using descriptive words to
let a reader to know exactly how something looks and it makes it more
interesting for them to read. I think I have also gotten good at word choice or
diction. I choose engaging words to keep the reader interested and informed on
exactly how the event is going.
I also
think these are the things I have improved on the most this year. In the first
semester my vivid imagery sounded very forced and ineffectual. The more I have
started to work on this is my writing and thinking about the way authors use these
two tools to help with the reader’s interpretation of the scene. I have gotten
a lot better at choosing words that are more descriptive and fit the situation
well. I have grown much over this year to acquire these skills.
